Pirates Set for NCAA East First Round
May 27, 2025 | Track & Field
GREENVILLE, N.C. – The East Carolina track & field team is set to compete at the NCAA East First Round meet Thursday through Saturday at Hodges Stadium in Jacksonville, Fla.
Â
Live results for the meet will be available from FlashResults.com and each day is set for streaming on ESPN+ with the broadcast beginning with the start of running events each day.
Â
The Pirates will not have any athletes competing on the meet's first day of competition on Wednesday but pick things up with a busy day on Thursday as three athletes compete in four events.
Â
Jocelyn Pringle opens the day in the women's hammer at 10 a.m. in which she will be competing in the second of four flights. Â Kailey Elliott takes the blocks at 6 p.m. for the first round of the 100m hurdles before Kelly Ufodiama competes in the 100m and 200m first rounds at 7 p.m. and 8:45 p.m., respectively to conclude the day.
Â
Should Elliott and Ufodiama advance, the NCAA Quarterfinal round for the 100m hurdles will be Saturday at 6:15 p.m. The 100m follows at 6:35 p.m. and the 200m is set for 7:50 p.m.
Â
On Friday, Shakiel Dacres competes in the men's discus as the lone ECU male athlete taking part in the meet. The event begins at 1 p.m.
Â
On the final day on Saturday, Faith Spencer will be the first Pirate competing with the women's triple jump at 2:30 p.m. The women's 4x100m team also competes at 5 p.m. in their quarterfinal before the potential individual sprints later on.
Â
For the big goal of advancing to Eugene for the NCAA Outdoor Championships, the math is a bit different for each event group. For the field events, the math is simple: finish in the top 12 and you're in. For the relay, the top three in each of the three heats plus the next three fastest times advance. For the sprint events, the top three from each heat plus the next six times advance to the quarterfinals and from there it will be the top three from each heat and the next three times.
