Jackson's Two Home Runs Power Pirates Past Memphis In AAC Softball Second Round
May 07, 2025 | Softball
Tampa, Fla. – Emma Jackson hit two home runs and recorded three RBI as East Carolina sailed past Memphis in the second round of the American Athletic Conference Softball Championship on Wednesday evening at USF Softball Stadium.
Jackson's first home run in the bottom of the third inning set a new single season program record for home runs by a Pirate. Kanisha Anderson recorded two RBI and Mary-Kathryn Scott and Gabby Fowler also batted in a run for the Pirates (30-25, 14-13 AAC).
Memphis struck first, scoring a run in the first inning after a Pirate miscue but ECU was able to get out of the inning on the next play, allowing just the one run from the Tigers.
Jackson tied the game in the bottom of the third on her solo shot and the junior would put ECU in front 3-1 in the bottom of the fourth with a two-run shot.Â
ECU's bats stayed on fire with two hits and three runs in the bottom of the fifth as the Pirates extended their lead to 6-1 and cruised the rest of the way to advance to the quarterfinals.
Kendall Frost (13-15) tossed four strikeouts in five innings while Taylor Apple threw three strikeouts in two innings of relief.
