
Pirates Return To Action At Tribe Quad Meet On Friday

Hampton, Va. – The East Carolina swimming and diving team returns to action this Friday at the Hampton Aquaplex to compete in the Tribe Quad Meet, facing Old Dominion, Richmond and William & Mary.
The 16-event meet will start at 4 p.m. and fans can follow live results in the MeetMobile app.
East Carolina comes off a successful fall that featured a 5-2 mark in dual meets, three American Conference Diving and Freshman Diving Athlete of the Week honors and multiple top 10 program performances and personal records.
The Pirates' swimmers had multiple top 10 performances at the Gamecock Invitational, where the Pirates finished fourth out of nine teams. Carlie Clements set a new program record in the 100-backstroke with a time of 53.18 while also finishing with a time of 1:57.99 (third all-time) in the 200-backstroke. Tanith Mueller continued her strong freshman season, setting a time 2:00.84 in the 200-butterfly (eighth all-time), 4:24.25 (ninth all-time) in the 400-individual medley, 16:53.92 in the 1650-free (eighth all-time)Â and setting a freshman program record in the 100-butterfly (54.09). Elena Dinehart recorded top-10 program times in the pool as well for the 200-backstroke (1:57.83), 100-backstroke (54.87) and 200-individual medley (2:02.93).
In the diving well, Frida Zuniga took American Conference Diving Athlete of the Week honors three times while Romina Hernandez and Cecilia Bragantini earned American Conference Freshman Diving Athlete of the Week twice and once respectively. Hernandez's score of 190.05 in the platform at the Georgia Tech Invitational was seventh-best all-time in program history. The Pirates also had three NCAA Diving Zone Qualifiers in Zuniga, Hernandez and Bragantini while recording 19 CSCAA National Invitational Championship cuts. Zuniga set the Minges Natatorium record in the 3-meter earlier this month with a score of 382.05 points.
