GREENVILLE, N.C. – East Carolina returns home seeking to build off the momentum of its big road win at Florida Atlantic last Sunday as the Pirates are set for a rematch with Temple inside Williams Arena at Minges Coliseum on Saturday afternoon.
The game is slated for a noon ET tip time and will be televised on ESPNU with Eric Rothman (play-by-play) and Mark Adams (analyst) on the call. Pirate fans can also tune in to 107.9 WNCT FM, 94.3 The Game or download the IBX app to hear Jim Szoke call the action.
Jordan Riley leads the Pirates and the American in scoring with 22.9 points per game (6th in NCAA) and the senior guard was named the American Conference Player of the Week as well as the USBWA Oscar Robertson National Player of the Week after averaging 36 points on 50 percent shooting in ECU's two games last week. Giovanni Emejuru anchors the interior with 13.5 points and 9.4 rebounds per game and Demitri Gardner adds nine points per contest on 60 percent shooting from behind the arc.
Last Time Out
Jordan Riley scored a game-high 35 points as East Carolina stunned Florida Atlantic, 76-75, on Sunday afternoon at Eleanor R. Baldwin Arena.
Riley Close To 1,000
Jordan Riley is only 40 points away from becoming the 35th player to reach 1,000 points at ECU and just the fourth to do so in two seasons (Blue Edwards, Oliver Mack and Jayden Gardner). Riley became only the second Pirate to score 35 or more in back-to-back games since Oliver Mack in 1977. He is also one of only four Pirates to have four 30-point games in a single season (Oliver Mack, Blue Edwards and Akeem Richmond).
Scouting the Owls
Temple comes into Saturday off a bye week after narrowly defeating South Florida at home, 79-78, on Saturday. The Owls' offense is led by Derrian Ford's 18 points per game while Aiden Tobiason (15 ppg), Jordan Mason (11.7 ppg) and Gavin Griffiths (11.7 ppg) provide secondary scoring. Temple is 4-2 on the road this year and have won three of their last four road games.
Series History
Temple leads the all-time series with East Carolina 13-7 as the Owls have taken the last two meetings including a meeting in Philly early last month by a score of 75-67. ECU is 5-4 all-time in Minges against Temple and the Pirates have won the last two contests at home against the Owls.
On This Date
ECU is 8-9 in games played on Feb. 7 with the last game on this date coming during the 2015-16 season when the Pirates lost 85-67 at UConn.
