CONWAY, N.C. -Â The East Carolina Pirates set their sights on Conway for their annual three-game series against No. 16 Coastal Carolina. ECU stopped by Wilmington for a competitive mid-week on Wednesday and came up above the Seahawks with a final score of 5-3.Â
The Pirates have not had the opportunity to play a full three-game weekend in Conway, with the most recent contests in Conway being the 2025 Conway Regional, where the Pirates played the Coastal on their turf for the first time since 2008. Â
This will be the first time the Chants host the Pirates for a three-game weekend series. Â
Potential Weekend Rotation
Friday - LHP Ethan Norby vs. RHP Luke Jones
Saturday - RHP Gavin Van Kempen vs. RHP Ross Norman
Sunday - RHP Colby Weber vs. TBA

The East Carolina Pirates gave what was supposed to be a bullpen performance, but it turned into a season-high performance for Joseph Webb to earn the 5-3 win. Webb was able to go four full innings with five of the staff's seven strikeouts on the day. With the help of the defense, the ECU pitching staff kept the Seahawks from catching up, allowing only two walks and eight hits and keeping the damage low. ÂColby Wallace and Grady Lenahan were able to do the most, going 2-for-3, with Lenahan having two sacrifice flies for his two RBIs on the day. Braden Burress and Barron Walker gave the Pirates the most opportunities, with both players scoring four of the five runs. Â
The UNCW staff also gave a good performance, forcing the Pirates to string together hits for an outcome. The Seahawks only gave up one double, with the rest of ECU's 10 hits being singles or quality at-bats that forced an RBI. Â
Leaving Wilmington with a win gives the Pirates a leg up on competition and gives some good momentum for ECU going into the weekend. Â
About Coastal Carolina
No.16 Coastal Carolina has been an all-around team throughout non-conference play. Overall, the Chants are 7-5 with eight of those contests being hosted in Conway (6-2). ÂCoastal started strong from their run in the 2025 World Series, being able to sweep Fairfield for their home opener. Challenges started to grab hold of the Chants, with two significant upsets, starting with Illinois having a big upper hand, 14-3. Most recently, the Chants had a competitive weekend in Houston, where the American Conference opponent, UTSA, gave them their second upset, falling 16-10.Â
Coastal has been able to keep ECU at bay, with their last meeting being in the NCAA Regionals in 2025. The Pirates were unable to post a win over the Chants at Conway Regional, but they gave Coastal a tough fight, having a standout start to the Greenville series in 2025, scoring 7 runs to take the win. Â
Interestingly, the Pirates and the Chants met each other in 2025 (five) almost as often as they did before the head coaching era of Coastal's Kevin Schnall (six). Â
The first pitch on Friday, March 6, is set for 6:00 p.m. EST in Conway, with the Pirates eager to have a chance to rematch the foes that knocked them out of a World Series appearance.Â
