CLEMSON, S.C. – The East Carolina volleyball team dropped a four-set decision to Clemson, 3-1, Saturday afternoon at Jervey Gymnasium. With the result, the Pirates move to 4-1 on the season.

East Carolina battled back after dropping the opening set, responding with a strong second frame. The Pirates hit .344 in the second set while limiting Clemson to a .118 attack percentage, earning a 25-18 victory to even the match at one set apiece.

Clemson regained control in the third set, hitting .379 as the Tigers took the frame, 25-17. East Carolina attempted to rally in the fourth, cutting the deficit to 23-19 late in the set, but Clemson closed out the match with the final two points for the 25-19 victory.

Ellie Pate led the Pirates offensively with 16 kills while hitting .333, adding two assists and five digs. Aulie Huff contributed eight kills, while Nina Edwards recorded six kills while hitting .545.

Taryn Gilreath directed the ECU offense with 21 assists, while Brook Watkins added 15 assists. The Pirates finished the match with 42 kills and a .212 team attack percentage. ECU also recorded 11.0 total team blocks.

Defensively, ECU collected 83 digs, led by Pate's 37. Gilreath added 10 digs, while Huff contributed four blocks and Bailey recorded three blocks.

The Pirates will close with their final game in tournament play against UNCG on Sunday afternoon at Noon ET.
