Slachetka will work directly with men's basketball, while assisting with football and several Olympic sports.
Slachetka arrived at ECU after a one-year stint at Eastern Michigan University where he was an associate head sports performance coach and primarily in charge of programming for the football, baseball, volleyball, track and field sprinting and golf programs.
Prior to his time at EMU, Slachetka was an assistant strength coach at Virginia Commonwealth University for one season following nearly two years as a graduate assistant at Eastern Illinois University. At EIU, he earned a Master of Science degree in kinesiology and sports studies in the spring of 2012.
After serving five years in the Unites States Marines, which included two tours of combat duty in Iraq, he received an honorable discharge in June 2006 and walked on to the University of Massachusetts football team as an offensive lineman. In his spare time, he was also an assistant coach at nearby Chicopee Comprehensive High School before graduating in May 2010 with a bachelor's degree in kinesiology.
He is married to the former Emily Nicotera of Fredericksburg, Va.
