Kitara McMoore joined the East Carolina women's basketball staff as the Director of Basketball Operations in July of 2011.
"Kitara is a winner in every sense of the word," head coach Heather Macy said. "She was an integral part of our Sweet Sixteen run at Francis Marion. Her ability to communicate, along with her organizational methods, makes her the right addition to our staff."
McMoore is already familiar with working alongside Macy, having served as an assistant coach for Francis Marion during the 2008-09 season as the Patriots registered a 27-5 record and advanced to the Sweet Sixteen of the NCAA Tournament. The 27 wins were tied for the fifth most in a single season for the program.
"I am honored and excited to have the opportunity to join Heather Macy at East Carolina University," McMoore stated. "Her exceptional leadership and outstanding coaching and recruiting abilities will help bring continued success to the Pirate program. I welcome the challenge to work under such a young and talented coach and will help her take our program to the next level."
The Virginia Beach, Va., native is a 2008 graduate of Elon University, where she earned a Bachelor of science degree in exercise and sports science. She played three seasons on the Phoenix women's basketball team, recording career totals of 955 points and 651 rebounds while missing her junior season with a knee injury.
As a senior, she averaged 10.8 points and 7.6 rebounds per game, while connecting on 52.5 percent of her field goal attempts. McMoore was named to the Southern Conference All-Tournament Team and was the initial recipient of the Southern Conference's Ann Lashley Inspiration Award - an award that honors a student-athlete or coach who has shown outstanding courage or service. She was chosen as the recipient of the award after overcoming six knee surgeries during her time at Elon.
As a sophomore, McMoore led the conference in both scoring (14 ppg) and rebounding (9.1 rpg), was a three-time SoCon Player of the Week selection and was tabbed a first-team all-conference pick at the end of the season. She was also honored as a first-team All-State member. McMoore was named three times to the SoCon Academic Honor Roll, was on the Elon Dean's List and Athletic Director's Honor Roll, received a grant from university to attend the 2007 NCAAHPERD Conference and earned a Black Excellence Award for 2006, 2007, and 2008.
McMoore has worked with various health-related organizations owing to her exercise sports science major. She also served as a high school varsity summer league coach in her hometown for five years.
A graduate of First Colonial High School, McMoore was a three-time first-team All-Beach District pick. After averaging 21.2 ppg as a senior, she became her school's first-ever All-State AAA first-team honoree. McMoore is a former Beach Player of the Year and played in the 2003 Virginia High School Coaches Association All-Star Game.
