Caty Butler was named assistant soccer coach on February 20, 2017 head coach Rob Donnenwirth announced.Â
Butler, a four-year letter winner and 2013 graduate of East Carolina, returns to Greenville after spending the 2016 season as an assistant coach at St. Bonaventure in New York. During her season with the Bonnies, Butler was responsible for leading training sessions, game analysis, organizing team travel and managing the team's equipment budget. She also was responsible for recruiting, alumni relations and running the team's social media accounts.

"It's always good to bring a Pirate home," Donnenwirth said. "Caty is not only passionate about soccer but she is also passionate about ECU. I knew coaching was always in Caty's blood since I recruited her. She has prepared herself for this moment, between playing overseas, coaching at the club level and recently at the college level."

Prior to landing in upstate New York, Butler earned her Masters from Durham University in England where she served as a Graduate Assistant helping the Durham's Second Team to a League Championship. As a player for Durham, she led the squad to the National Championship Semifinals and a Bucs Premier League North Championship as Durham's leading scorer during the 2013-14 season.

After Durham, Butler played professional for IK Myran in Nedervetil Finland from March 2014 until August. In the summer of 2015 she was a member of the Fredericksbug Football Club in the Women's Professional Soccer League.

Butler has spent time coaching with the Fredericksburg Football Club and the Fredricksburg Area Soccer association. She has also coached at various camps including Mary Washington University, East Carolina and the FASA W-League.

During her four years with ECU, she was twice named to the Conference USA All-Academic Team and was honored as 2012 NSCAA Third Team Academic All-Region. N 2011 she was North Carolina Collegiate Sports Information Association All-State honoree in 2011 and still ranks in the Pirates' top-10 for career goals, assists and points.

Butler earned her B.S. in Sports Studies from East Carolina in 2013. She is a member of the NSCAA and holds a NSCAA Level 2 Diploma and Goalkeeping Level 1 Diploma.
