The Pirates ( 9-4-3, 5-2-2) took the lead in the second half when junior defensive sweeper Penny Perrott headed the ball into the net for the game-winning goal off of a corner kick from senior Amanda Duffy at 52:13.
A physical game from the start, the Pirates had eight shots and the Eagles had 15. Solid defense from the Pirates kept them alive; freshman Michelle Kmiotek had six saves for the day.
The first goal of the game came from Marquette (10-4-3, 4-2-3) at the 7:51 mark when Julie Thompson pulled Kmiotek out of the ECU goal while sending the ball inside to Ashely Spakowitz who had a clear shot.
The Pirates' first shot came at 40:04 when sophomore Krystel Pabey sent a corner inside the 18 and Duffy kicked it into the left corner.
"The first 15 minutes things didn't look too good," Head Coach Rob Donnenwirth said. "They really took it to us and had us spinning. I don't know when the momentum change really happened, but I thought it did. I thought we played a very good game the rest of the way."
The Pirates host DePaul University at 12 p.m. on Sunday at Bunting Field.
