ECU's Hoyle Named Verizon Academic All-America
November 25, 2002 | Soccer
Hoyle, who was a second-team selection, is the first ECU women's soccer player ever to earn Academic All-America status and the first ECU student-athlete to earn that designation this season. Last year, baseball's Sam Narron was a second-team pick.
Hoyle is an exercise and sports science major who holds a perfect 4.0 grade point average. A transfer from West Florida, she entered the 2000 season as a defender and midfielder. This season she played forward and midfield. With a reputation as a tough defender, she was one of the team's leaders on the field both offensively and defensively. She finished the season with two goals, two assists and six points.
The Verizon Academic All-America program was founded in 1952 by CoSIDA to recognize collegiate student-athletes for their outstanding achievements in the classroom and on the playing field. Over the past 51 years, the Verizon Academic All-America program has grown into one of the most recognized and prestigious collegiate scholar-athlete awards nationwide, honoring student-athletes from all NCAA championship sports.
