Men's Track Finishes Second At IC4A Championships

Five Pirates earned All-East honors today for their performances. Junior Jeremy Carter finished third in the 100 (10.60), second in the 200 meter dash (21.06), and ran the second leg on the 4x100 meter relay team (39.80). Dunkley received honors for the 100 meters(10.52), the 4x100 meter relay and also for the 200 meter dash where he finished fifth (21.46). Senior Lawrence Ward and freshman B.J. Henderson also earned All-East honors in the 400 meters. Ward finished fifth in 47.06 seconds, while Henderson finished seventh in 47.15 seconds. Henderson was also on the 4x100 meter relay team. Senior Darren Tuitt was the final member of the 4x100 team to win All-East honors.
The men's 4x800 meter relay team of junior Jamal Nisbett, sophomore Wes Ricci, freshman Vance Stephenson, and freshman Trent Fuchs narrowly missed All-East honors as they finished ninth (7:45.81) setting a new ECU record for the event.
"This was a great meet for us," said men's Head Coach Bill Carson. "This was our highest finish ever at the IC4A's."
The Pirates finished with a total of 52 points. Georgetown was the meet champion with 87 points, followed by the ECU, George Mason at 51.33 points, and Seton Hall and Connecticut at 50 points each. There were 57 teams that scored points at the meet.
In women's action, freshman Terri Davenport won All-East honors in three events today. She finished eighth (12.26) in the 100 meter dash, fifth (24.58) in the 200 meter dash, and fifth (46.55) in the 4x100 meter relay. Also on the 4x100 meter relay was freshman Shirena James, sophomore Estrella Coppin, and sophomore Quiana Battle.
Coppin and Battle both competed in the triple jump finishing 12th and 13th, respectively. Senior Toni Kilgore also competed in the triple jump finishing 16th. Junior Colleen McGinn finished 15th overall in the high jump.
The women's team finished 15th out of 50 scoring teams as they earned 21 points this weekend. Seton Hall won the championships with 82 points, with Georgetown at 74, Virginia at 59, West Virginia at 58 points, and Pittsburg at 52 points.
The women's outdoor season is now complete. For the men, those who have qualified will travel to Baton Rouge, La., on May 29-June 1 to compete in the NCAA Championships.
