4x400 Relay Captures Fourth at NCAA Championships

Baton Rouge, La. -- Senior Lawrence Ward led the Pirates to a record finish today as the East Carolina men's track team concluded their 26th consecutive trip to the NCAA Championships in record fashion.
The 4x400 meter relay team finished fourth today, setting a new ECU record as they finished the event in 3:02.81. For Ward and freshman B.J. Henderson, this was the fourth time they have won All-America titles in their careers. Junior Frankie Green and freshman Domonick Richmond also earned All-America status as members of the team.
South Carolina won the event in 3:02.16, followed by Baylor (3:02.21), and LSU (3:02.33). Henderson set a new record for the 2001-2002 track season by earning four All-America titles.
Host school LSU won the 2002 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships with 64 points, followed by Tennesse (57), Southern Methodist (42), Florida and Clemson (32 each).
