PALO ALTO, Calif. -- Two East Carolina University sprinters have advanced to the finals of the 400-meter run at the 2002 U.S. Junior National Championships, being held this weekend at Stanford University.
ECU's B.J. Henderson and Domonick Richmond each advanced from their qualifying heats on Friday. Henderson won his heat with a clocking of 47.15, while Richmond advanced with a time of 47.55.
The pair makes ECU the only school with two athletes qualified for the finals of the event.
The finals will be run on Saturday.
The Junior Nationals include nearly 700 athletes. In order to qualify for competition, an athlete must meet certain performance standards and be between the ages of 14-19. The meet serves as the selection competition for the 2002 World Junior Track & Field Championships, July 16-21 in Kingston, Jamaica.
