Amanda Duffy Named Preseason All-Conference USA

Duffy became just the second ECU women's soccer player to earn first team all-conference accolades as a junior last season. She scored 14 goals, including four game-winning goals, and handed out four assists for a season total of 32 points. Duffy also earned second team NSCAA All-South region honors and was named third team All-Southeast region by Soccer Buzz. She ranks second on the school's career list for goals (22), assists (11), and points (55).
The coaches also predicted the ECU women's soccer team, which finished sixth in the conference in 2001, to finish one spot below that during the 2002 campaign.
ECU returns all 11 starters and 17 letterwinners from last year's squad that compiled a 10-8-1 overall record and a 6-4-1 mark in Conference USA.The victory total marked the fifth consecutive season that the Pirates won at leat 10 games.
Marquette was predicted to win the league championship, followed by Cincinnati, Charlotte, UAB, Saint Louis and Houston. Tulane was predicted to finish eighth as only the top eight finishers in the regular season earn a spot in the Conference USA Tournament.
The Pirates open the 2002 regular season on August 30 at Bunting Field against High Point. The game is scheduled for a 4 p.m. start.
