"This recruiting class is one of the top groups that have ever come to ECU," said Kee. "We are thrilled to have these talented athletes joining our program for our upcoming season. These student-athletes will be young impact players who will be called to step up early on in their careers here at East Carolina."
Only one member of this year's recruiting class comes from the state of North Carolina. Chrystal Carter comes to ECU from Fayetteville, N.C., where she was a starter for South View High School. Two recruits, Brittany Boyd and Christine Sheridan hail from Maryland. While Lacassa Hill is from Georgia, Krista Jessup is from Florida, Jenna Wilson from Virginia and Brently Bridgeforth from Nevada. Three of the players (Bridgeforth, Boyd, and Carter) are pitchers and will replace lost letterwinners Nicole Bacon and Laurie Davidson in the pitcher's circle. Jessup will see action behind the plate, Hill can be seen in the outfield, and the remainder of the players will be used as utility players.
The Pirates will open up the 2003 season on February 14 at the Triangle Classic in Raleigh, N.C.
