
ECU Track Teams Open Indoor Season in Chapel Hill

The meet, hosted by the University of North Carolina, featured a strong field including teams from Duke, NC State, Wake Forest, St. Augustine's, North Carolina Central, Charlotte, Western Carolina, North Carolina A&T, East Carolina, UNC-Wilmington as well as invited athletes from around the state.
The ECU men started off strong with sophomore Jeff Walls (Camden, N.J.) placing first in the 200 meter dash (22.04) and sophomore Reggie Williams (Greenville, N.C.) taking third place (22.18). Senior Julien Dunkley (Westbury, N.Y.) took second place in the 60-meter dash with a mark of 6.81.
Jeremey Carter (Raleigh, N.C.) began his senior season placing fourth in the 60 meter dash (6.91) and second in the 60 meter hurdles (8.02).
The 4x400 meter relay team took first place (3.15.28) and the men's distance medley earned second (10:28.93). Senior DeVon Carter (Chesapeake, Va.) took third place in the throw (52-10.25).
The Lady Pirates took first place in the women's distance medley (12:25.23). Senior Shirena James (Hickory, N.C.) earned sixth in the 60 meter dash (7.80). Junior Kimberly Lash (Philadelphia, Pa.) placed 10th in the one mile run (5:33.34).
Three Pirates placed in the top 15 in the 800 meter run--Lauren Miller (Raleigh, N.C.) took 10 (2:33.87), Caitlin Littlefield (Raleigh, N.C.) took 11th (2:33.97) and Kimberly Lash placed 13th (2:38.44).
The Pirates return to action next weekend, January 17-18, at the Virginia Tech Invitational.
