Pirates Finish Prelims At Virginia Tech Invitational

BLACKSBURG, Va. -- The East Carolina Track teams finished the first day of preliminary races at the Virginia Tech Indoor Invitational in Blacksburg, Va.

For the Lady Pirates, Shirena James placed 16th (7.60) in the prelims for the 60-meter and will compete tomorrow along with Terri Davenport, who placed 16th (7.65), and Demiko Picott, who placed 24th (7.68). In the pole vault, Nicole Marchewka placed 15th (3.14m) and Tammie Mentzel placed 23rd (3.04m).

For the men, Jeremy Carter placed eight in the 60-meter hurdles (7.94) and took fourth in the 60-meter dash (6.76) and Reggie Williams earned 11th place (6.86). Vance Stephenson took 17th place in the 600 meter run (1:26.00). Devon Carter placed sixth in the weight throw (16.40m).

The Pirates return to action tomorrow in the final events of the Virginia Tech Invitational.
