
ECU Indoor Track Teams Enjoy Successful Weekend

NEW YORK -- East Carolina University's men's track team had a successful day at the New York Elite Invitational, held at the Armory Track and Field Center in New York, while the ECU women participated in the Maryland Elite Invitational in Landover, Md.
In the men's competition, ECU's Julian Dunkley took second place in the 60-yard dash (6.79), followed by Jeremy Carter in third (6.82). Carter also took 10th in the 60-meter hurdles (8.45).
In the 400-meter dash, B.J. Henderson took second place (47.98), Darrus Cofield earned third place (48.07) and Michael Hillian took eighth place (49.18).
In the 800 meter, Ricardo Bell earned sixth place (1:55.03), Vance Stephenson took 15th place (1:57.52), and Jamal Nisbett placed 21st (1:58.63).
Jeffery Walls won the 200 meter dash (21.59). Michael Hillian took 25th place (22.88) and Jeremy Carter took 28th place (22.97).
The men's 4x800 meter relay team took first place (7:55.44) and the 4x400 relay team took second place (3:12.05).
The Lady Pirates headed to Landover, Md. for the Maryland Elite Invitational held at the Prince George's Sports Complex. A few men joined the Lady Pirates in Maryland.
Craig Schmidt took 13th in the 3000 meter (9:09.55). Pat Martin took 22nd in the 60 meter hurdles (9.49), 26th in the 400-meter run (54.73) and 18th in the long jump (5.25m). Devon Carter won the weight throw (17.12m) and placed fourth in the shot put (13.48m).
Mayso Porch placed eigth in the weight throw (14.46m). Shirena James took 15th in the 200 meter (26.08) while Kelsey Walker took the 20th spot (27.70). In the one-mile run, Kelli Litten placed 11th (5:19.89), Indria Garcia took 12th (5:20.34) and Jessica Collins placed 13th (5:21.73).
In the 400 meter, Terri Davenport took 13th place (59.09) and Aspen Powell placed 19th (1:00.03).
Tara DeBrielle placed seventh in the 800 meter (2:17.73), Kim Lash placed 22nd (2:27.65) and Lauren Miller placed 25th (2:33.01).
Kay Livick placed third in the 3000 meter (10:09.35) and Litten placed eighth (10:23.49).
The distance medley team placed second (12:28.32).
In the pole vault Tammie Menzel placed 10th (3.05m) and Nicole Marchewka placed 11th (2.90m).
Star Coppin earned third in the triple jump (11.58m).
