GREENVILLE, N.C. - East Carolina University head golf coach Kevin Williams has announced the signing of Emelie Lind (Kungsangen, Sweden) and Shawn Kelley (Cincinnati, Ohio) to the women's golf team. Lind and Kelley both signed National Letters of Intent on Friday, November 14, for the 2004-05 season.
Lind, a student at Upplands-bro Gymnasium in Kungsangen, Sweden, is a member of the Bankboken Tour Elit in Sweden. She is ranked 11th in Sweden for females under 21 and the sixth highest ranked junior girl. In August she was the Qualifying Medalist for the Bankboken Tour Elit Match Play Championship where she eventually lost in the finals of match play portion.
Representing the Swedish National Team, Lind finished fourth individually in the Nordic Championship in September, 2003. Other 2003 highlights include winning the 2003 Upplands-bro Gymnasium Championship with a three-under par 70 and helping her home club Bro-Balsta capture the team championship in the national Club Team Division One Series.
"Emelie has a wonderful game and is an extremely talented golfer," said Williams. "Like most Swedes, she is an extremely hard worker and very focused to see how far she can take her golf game. She will make an immediate impact on our program and I am excited about working with her the next four years."
Kelley, a senior at Saint Ursula Academy in Cincinnati, Ohio, won the 2002 California Golf Course Women's Club Championship. She was named to the 2003 first-team All Girls Greater Cincinnati League and 2003 first-team Cincinnati Enquirer All-City Team.
In 2002, Kelley earned second-team All Girls Greater Cincinnati League honors and was a All-City Honorable Mention by the Cincinnati Enquirer.
"Shawn has a tremendous amount of potential and is a good student," said Williams. "I feel her game will grow significantly over the next couple of years being around such good players and I look forward to Shawn making a positive impact on our program."
