
ECU Track Teams Shine at Penn State Meet

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. -- East Carolina's men's indoor track & field team placed fifth and the women's team met three ECAC qualifying marks as both finished up the final day of competition at the Sykes/Sabock Challenge held at the Ashenfelter Track.
The men finished in fifth place among 11 teams, scoring 69 points. The Pirates placed behind meet champ Ohio State, host Penn State, Central Michigan, and Michigan.
In the 200-meter dash on Saturday, Julien Dunkley took second place (21.35), Jeremy Carter was fourth (21.61), Jeff Walls was seventh (21.81) and Reggie Williams took eighth place (21.85).
B.J. Henderson had a NCAA provisional qualifying time in the 400 meter (46.92). Domonick Richmond took third place with a personal best of 47.27. Darrus Cofield took 11th place (49.07) and Michael Hillian earned 16th (49.48).
Kristian Jorgensen took 18th place in the mile (4:22.65).
In the 800 meter, Ricardo Bell placed 11th (1:53.10), Jamal Nisbett took 13th (1:53.52) and Vance Stephenson placed 22nd (1:56.87).
The 4x400 meter relay team of Jeff Walls, B.J. Henderson, Domonick Richmond, and Darrus Cofield took first place, earning an NCAA provisional time of 3:09.98.
In the field events, Renaldo Isaac took sixth in the long jump (22-08.00), and Derrick Carr took 19th (19-02.50). Carr also placed ninth in the triple jump (43.03.00).
De'Von Carter placed ninth in the weight throw (56.02.50) and eighth in the shot put (41:00.50).
"We saw great performances from our guys, in competing against these kinds of teams," said ECU men's head coach Bill Carson.
On the women's side, Tara DeBrielle set a new ECU record and earned an ECAC qualifying mark with her time of 2:12.37 in the 800 meters. Terri Davenport earned eighth place and a qualifying mark of 24.85.
Shirena James earned an ECAC qualifying mark in the 200 and ran a personal best of 24.93, placing her 10th.
Caitlin Littlefield placed 14th in the mile with a time of 5:11.94.
"It was a good, solid meet," said women's head coach Matt Munson. "We are proud to be a part of this meet and look forward to coming back next year."
