
Softball Picks Up A Pair Of Victories

In game one, East Carolina scored early and often. Krista Jessup's RBI-single in the first gave the Lady Pirates a lead they never relinquished.
Lacassa Hill's bases clearing triple in the second plated three more runs for a four-run cushion. Moments later, Hill scored on sacrifice bunt by Christine Sheridan.
Brown got on the board in the third inning when pitcher Uchenna Omokaro hit a solo home run over the center field wall. After holding ECU scoreless in the next two frames, Brown added another run in the fourth.
In the top of the fifth, the Bears put two more runs on the board, to close within a run, but that was as close as thye got.
The Lady Pirates put up five runs in the fifth to seize control of the game. After being hit by a pitch, Sheridan scored the first run on the frame on a fielder's choice. Mandi Nichols drove in the next run of the inning, also on a fielder's choice, but it was Brandi Benedict's first triple of the season that sent three runs across home plate.
Brown would go on to score one more run in the seventh.
Brittany Boyd picked up the victory for ECU and improved to 6-3 on the year. Benedict led the way offensively, going 3-for-3 at the plate.
Game two was a pitcher's duel. The lone run of the game scored on an RBI-single to center field by Hill.
Maggie Lingo earned the victory for ECU and improved her record to 4-7.
ECU returns to action this weekend when they travel to Chapel Hill to participate in the Tar Heel Classic. ECU will face ACC foes North Carolina and Virginia on Saturday, beginning at 2 p.m. Then, on Sunday, March 30, they will face Hawaii at 10 a.m. ECU is scheduled to play a fourth game on Sunday at 2 p.m. against an opponent that is yet to be determined.
