
James to Compete in Finals at Raleigh Relays

RALEIGH, N.C. -- Sprinter Shirena James qualified for the finals in the 100-meter dash to highlight East Carolina's women's track team's performances in the first day of the 2003 Adidas Raleigh Relays at Derr Track on Friday.
James, a senior from Hickory, N.C., placed eighth out of 126 runners in the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.04. She advances to the finals on Saturday. Teammate Demiko Picott placed 41st (12.38) and Kelsey Walker took the 66th spot (12.62).
ECU junior Star Coppin placed 41st out of 103 in the 100-meter hurdles (14.91). Terri Davenport placed 24th in the finals in the 400m (57.11) and Aspen Powell placed 77th (1:09.79) out of 137 athletes.
The Pirates will complete day two at the Raleigh Relays on Saturday and will be joined by select members of the men's team in the competition.
