ECU Softball Splits at Coastal Carolina
March 05, 2003 | Softball
The split leaves ECU with an overall record of 10-6.
In East Carolina's first game of the day, right fielder Chrystal Carter went 3-for-4, including a home run, with two RBI. Lacassa Hill and Stacey Smith also homered for the Lady Pirates, who pounded out 14 hits off St. Francis (0-6).
In the Lady Pirates' second game, Coastal Carolina's Christine Doyle carried a no-hitter into the seventh inning and the Lady Chants held on for a 5-1 win to improve to 10-1 on the season. Mandi Nichols ended up with ECU's only hit, an RBI single in the seventh. Coastal jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning, thanks in part to an ECU error, and cruised from that point on.
ECU continues play in South Carolina by participating in the Hampton Inn Cougar Invitational, hosted by College of Charleston, this Friday through Saturday. The Lady Pirates' scheduled opponents include Iona, Brown, St. Francis, and Toledo.
