CHICAGO -- The No. 9 Blue Demons (29-4, 14-1 C-USA) won game three against East Carolina on Sunday. DePaul put up eight runs off 13 hits to beat the Pirates 8-2 and to sweep the series.
The Blue Demons scored in the second inning when Lindsay Chouinard hit a double to right center and sent in Sarah Douglas who had singled to right field and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt from Katy Kukman.
The team scored again in the third when Saskia Roberson collected an RBI off a single that scored Liz Bouck who had also singled on a slap to the shortstop.
The Pirates scored one of their own in the top of the fourth inning to keep things interesting. Lacassa Hill reached first on a Demon error and scored when Christine Sheridan hit a double down the left field line.
In the fifth inning, DePaul chalked up four runs off four hits including a double from Sarah Douglas. The Demons scored two more in the sixth after taking advantage of three hits and an error by East Carolina.
The Pirates hung on to fight in the top of the seventh. Sheridan took first after she was hit by a pitch. Kate Manuse reached on an error by Kukman. East Carolina scored when a single up the middle from Stacey Smith sent in Sheridan and put another in scoring position. But two groundouts quickly ended any chance for the Pirates to make a comeback.
The Blue Demons were hot at the plate with Bouck leading the pack hitting 4-for-4, scoring two runs, and stealing two bases.
Sarah Martz hit 3-for-4 and collected two RBIs while Roberson hit 2-for-4 and notched two RBIs.
Chouinard (19-3) struck out three batters and allowed just two hits and one earned run.
