
Pirates Run Strong on First Day of Penn Relays

PHILADELPHIA -- The East Carolina women's track team completed the first day of the prestigious Penn Relays on Thursday, producing a new school record and an ECAC qualifier.
The 4x100 meter team of Terri Davenport, Demiko Picott, Star Coppin and Shirena James finished third going into the finals to the ECAC Championships tomorrow (46.46).
Senior Kay Livick crushed the standing 3,000m record (10.02.42) with a time of 9:47.14 and placed 13th in the event. Senior Kelli Litten ran a season best 11:13.52 in the 3,000m steeplechase and placed 13th.
In field events sophomore Krystel Pabey placed eighth overall in the javelin and seventh in the overall college section (42.00m).
"It was a good start today," said Head Coach Matt Munson. "The weather is beautiful at Penn and we are looking forward to the finals in the 4x100 tomorrow and Star Coppin competing in the triple jump."
