PHILADELPHIA -- East Carolina's men's track team turned in a fifth-place finish in the 4x200 meter relay in the final day of races at the prestigious Penn Relays.
The Pirates clocked a time of 1:23.01 in the Championship of America finals, which included top teams from around the nation. ECU was 1.36 seconds off the pace set by event champion Texas. The Pirates, who had qualified for the championship final with a clocking of 1:23.31 on Friday, finished ahead of units from Purdue and Houston.
The ECU men will compete next week in the Jesse Owens Track Classic in Columbus, Ohio, while the women will head to Fairfax, Va., for the George Mason Invitational. Those two meets will serve as both teams' final tune-ups before the Conference USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships, set for May 15-17 in Charlotte, N.C.
