GREENVILLE, N.C. -- Dates with seven regionally ranked opponents and another challenging Conference USA slate highlight the 2003 East Carolina women's soccer schedule, announced on Tuesday.
The Pirates will be playing seven teams that were ranked among the top 10 in their respective regions by Soccer Buzz following the 2002 season -- non-conference foes Texas, Florida, and Wake Forest as well as Conference USA opponents Cincinnati, Charlotte, Saint Louis, and Marquette.
In addition, ECU will host Miami at Bunting Field on October 17.
"This is by far our toughest schedule to date," said ECU head coach Rob Donnenwirth, who guided his team to a third-place finish in C-USA last year. "Our Conference USA games are already tough and we've added some top caliber teams that could end up being in the top 10."
The Pirates open play on August 20 with a home scrimmage against Old Dominion. The 2003 season officially opens on August 29 in Raleigh, N.C., with a contest against the Texas Longhorns, who finished 17th in the nation last season.
