
Pirates Advance 10 To Finals

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- East Carolina advanced 10 men and women to the finals in their respective events as competition got fully underway Friday at the Conference USA Track and Field Outdoor Championships. After Friday's races, the men are sitting in 10th place with 11.50 points and the women are in ninth with 13 points.
In the sprint events for the women, Kelsey Walker ran a season best in the 100-meter dash (12.48). In the 200-meter dash prelims, Terri Davenport placed sixth and will go on to tomorrow's finals (24.26), while Aspen Powell ran a season best of 25.44.
In the middle distance events, Tara Debrielle ran a season-best 2:15.10 in the 800m prelims, but was just shy of advancing to the finals. Kay Livick finished third in the 1500m prelims and will advance to tomorrow's finals (4:38.36). Caitlin Littlefield ran a season-best 4:50.48.
Kelli Litten placed sixth in the finals of the 3,000m steeplechase (11:08.42).
In the field events, Nicole Marchewka vaulted a season best in the finals of the pole vault, earning her sixth place (3.36m, 11-00.25). In the javelin final, Krystel Pabey finished third (42.03m, 137-11).
In the men's 100-meter dash prelims, both Jeremy Carter (10.48) and Reggie Williams (10.60) ran season bests and will advance to tomorrow's finals. The two will also advance to tomorrow's 200-meter finals along with B.J. Henderson; all three ran season bests in this event. Henderson placed fourth (20.87), Carter was seventh (21.11) and Williams finished eighth (21.16).
Domonick Richmond finished second in the 400m prelims with a time of 46.92 and will go on to the finals with Darrus Cofield, who came in fourth in the event (47.73). In the 800-meter run, Jamal Nisbett placed fifth (1:52.56) and will advance to the finals tomorrow.
The 400-meter hurdles brought another season best for Ronnie Pollard who placed second with a time of 52.17, good enough for the finals. Pat Martin came in fifth and will move on the finals tomorrow as well (53.04).
Kyle MacKenzie rounded out the running for the Pirates placing fifth in the 3,000m steeplechase finals with a season best of 9:25.96.
The Pirates return to action in Charlotte on Saturday, the final day of the Conference USA Championships, with competition beginning at 10 a.m.
