
18 Pirates To Run in NCAA Regionals

The men's team is taking 10 athletes who hope to move on to the finals in California State University in Sacramento, Calif. All-American senior Jeremy Carter (Raleigh, N.C.) will be running in the 100-meter dash along with sophomores Reggie Williams (Greenville, N.C.), and All-American B.J. Henderson (Raleigh, N.C.). The three will also combine with sophomore Darrus Cofield (Raleigh, N.C.) in the 4x100-meter relay.
Senior All-American Domonick Richmond (Hampton, Va.) will run in the 400 along with Cofield. Seniors Jamal Nisbett (Irvington, N.J.) and Ricardo Bell (Havelock, N.C.) will compete in the 800-meter run.
Sophomores Pat Martin (Jacksonville, Fla.) and Ronnie Pollard (Hendersonville, N.C.) will compete in the 400-meter hurdles.
The 4x400 relay team of Henderson, Michael Hillian (Voorhees, N.J.), Richmond, and Cofield return to the regionals after finishing 10th in the NCAA Indoor Championships.
The women are bringing eight contestants to the regionals, including senior school record-holder Terri Davenport (Woodbridge, Va.) who will compete in the 200-meter dash. Senior Kay Livick (Richmond, Va.) will compete in the 1,500-meter run; she holds the ECU record in this event.
Senior Kelli Litten (Canal Fulton, Ohio) holds the record in the 3,000-meter steeplechase and will run in this event this weekend.
The 4x100 relay team of Davenport, Demiko Picott, Star Coppin and Shirena James will compete on Saturday.
In the field events, sophomore record-holder Krystel Pabey (Naugatuck, Conn.) will compete in the javelin throw. In the pole vault, Tammie Mentzel (East Patchogue, N.Y.) holds the record and will compete.
Competition begins this Friday at 9:30 a.m. and goes all day Friday and Saturday. Check back at ecupirates.com for final results following each day's meet.
