FAIRFAX, Va. -- East Carolina's men's and women's track teams both had representatives qualify for the finals of their respective events as competition opened at the NCAA East Regional Outdoor Championships on Friday at George Mason University.
Nine individuals competed in Friday's preliminary rounds. Emerging from those preliminaries were sophomores B.J. Henderson (Raleigh, N.C.), who qualified seventh in the men's 200-meter dash (20.89) and Ronnie Pollard (Hendersonville, N.C.), who qualified seventh in the 400 hurdles (52.61).
The Pirate pair will look to place fifth or higher in Saturday's finals in order to qualify for the NCAA National Championships in two weeks.
Also qualifying was the women's 4x100 relay team of Terri Davenport, Demiko Picott, Star Coppin and Shirena James, which finished eighth in the prelims at 45.55. The relay team must finish third or better in Saturday's finals to qualify for nationals.
Also competing on Saturday will be Kelli Litten in the 3,000-meter steeplechase and the men's 4x400 relay team.
