
ECU Runners Come Up Short in NCAA Regional Finals

FAIRFAX, Va. -- East Carolina runners turned in solid performances on the final day of the NCAA East Region Outdoor Track & Field Championships, but failed to gain the required finishes to advance to the national meet in two weeks.
In Saturday's competition, hosted by George Mason University, ECU's Ronnie Pollard came the closest to qualifying for nationals as his seventh-place finish in the 400-meter hurdles left him two positions short. He was clocked at a time of 52.27.
Sophomore B.J. Henderson finished eighth in the 200-meter dash (21.55).
In women's competition, Terri Davenport, Demiko Picott, Star Coppin and Shirena James made up the 4x100 team that finished eighth with a time of 46.00.
Also on Saturday, ECU's Kelli Litten finished 21st in the women's 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 11:05.98 and the men's 4x400 relay team placed 10th among 22 teams with a clocking of 3:09.46.
The regional competition concludes the 2002-03 track season for both ECU's men's and women's teams.
