Two Pirates Meet NCAA Regional Qualification Marks
05/09/2003
GREENVILLE, N.C. -- Jamal Nisbett and Tammie Mentzel both qualified for the NCAA Regional Track & Field Championships as select East Carolina University student-athletes participated in the Eagle All-Comers Last Chance Meet, hosted by North Carolina Central University on Thursday.
Nisbett, a senior from Irvington, N.J., turned in a time of 1:51.03 in the 800 meters to win that event and reach the regional qualification mark.
Mentzel, a sophomore from East Patchogue, N.Y., also met her regional mark by clearing 12-6 in the pole vault. That mark also set a new school record.
Also competing in the meet were individuals from Duke, North Carolina, UNC Wilmington, North Carolina Central, NC State, and Barber-Scotia.
Nisbett and Mentzel bring ECU's total number of regional qualifiers to eight.
Both ECU's men's and women's teams will next compete in the Conference USA Outdoor Championships, to be held May 15-17 in Charlotte, N.C.
