NEW ORLEANS, LA. -- The East Carolina women's soccer team suffered its first loss in conference play Friday night at the hands of Tulane, 3-0, at Westfeldt Facility.
The Pirates (4-3-2, 1-1-1) fell behind midway through the first half when Jessica Traver scored on a cross from Lindsay Morris in the 35th-minute of play, on what would become the game-winning goal. The Green Wave (5-3-1, 2-1-0) got two more goals in the match from Jackie Obert and Lindsay Morris.
ECU's Meghan McCallion nearly added a goal in the second half when her shot from six-yards out hit the left post and rolled across the goal before it was cleared by the Green Wave keeper, Megan Morey. The Pirates recorded just five shots and one corner kick on the night.
"Tonight we didn't do a good job of defending the attack," said ECU head coach Rob Donnenwirth. "We had chances for some shots, but could not do anything at all. We need to be able to find ways to get more shots and defend in transition a whole lot better."
The Pirates head to Houston on Sunday for an afternoon match at 2 p.m., then travel to Wake Forest on Oct. 1 for a mid-week game before heading home to face Elon on Oct. 5.
