Mentzel Sets Vault Mark Again at Tar Heel Fast Times
January 18, 2004 | Men's Track and Field
A select group of Lady Pirates were among the 16 colleges and universities represented at the meet, which was ECU's first action of 2004. Included in the field were student-athletes from Duke, North Carolina, NC State, Western Carolina, Charlotte, and Richmond, among others. No team results were recorded.
In the pole vault, Mentzel, a junior, cleared 11-11.75, which broke her previous indoor school record of 11-6 set this past December. Mentzel finished in fourth place in Saturday's event.
McGinn placed fourth in the high jump by clearing 5-6. It was her first official competition in nearly two years as she did not compete last season due to scheduling conflicts with her academic requirements.
Turning in a top 10 finish was sophomore Jessica Collins, who was sixth in the 3,000-meter run with a time of 10:28.42.
ECU's sprinters did not compete in the meet.
The Lady Pirates will have their first full-squad competition next weekend at the Virginia Tech Invitational.
