
Women's Soccer Falls to Saint Louis 3-0

ST. LOUIS?The East Carolina women's soccer team dropped their second game in Conference USA action Friday night falling to Saint Louis 3-0 at Robert R. Hermann Stadium.
In a first half that Saint Louis dominated in time of possession, the Bills had two high quality chances as senior forward Jamie Perry sent a six-yard header wide in the 26th minute. Sophomore midfielder Maureen Hughes forced ECU keeper Lauren Hughes to make a leaping save in the 36th minute on a 10-yard header. The Pirates' best chance came off a Billiken defensive giveaway in the 29th minute, but SLU keeper Amanda Martin was sharp to turn away ECU forward Meghan McCallion.
Sophomore midfielder Dee Guempel put the Billikens on top at 44:31 as she knocked in a shot past ECU's Church in a goalmouth scramble. MaKensie Johnson picked up the assist. The Bills out-shot the Pirates 8-3 in the half.
Billiken sophomore midfielder Kelly Ferguson gave the Bills some breathing room with a hooking, 25-yard blast from the right flank to the far post in the 54th minute. SLU all-time leading scorer Jamie Perry picked up an assist on the play.
In a flurry of shots in the 59thy minute, Guempel netted her second of the night on a tough angle from eight yards along the right end line. Guempel pounced on a rebound of Perry's shot and put it into the far side netting.
The Pirates threatened on a corner kick in the 68th minute, as Billiken defender Heather Crawford twice knocked shot from ECU midfielder Rachelle Cabacieras off the SLU line. In the 74th minute, McCallion rang one off the cross bar from 30 yards.
The Billikens 8-3-1, 4-0-0 out-shot ECU (3-7-2, 1-2-1) 23-9 as the Pirates' Church made seven saves. The Billikens' Amanda Martin stopped five shot to record her seventh shutout of the season.
ECU will be travel to Memphis for a Sunday afternoon match at 1 p.m.
