SAINT LOUIS, MO -- The East Carolina women's soccer season came to an end tonight as they fell to Louisville, 2-1, in the first round of the Conference USA Tournament in Saint Louis, Mo. at Robert R. Hermann Stadium.
The Pirates (8-9-2, 6-3-1) fell behind in the 32nd minute of play when forward Jamie Craft beat keeper Lauren Church one-on-one from eight yards out. Lauren Podvin was credited with the assist.
In the second half of play, senior midfielder Sarah Stoltz got the Pirates on the board with the equalizer. She received a cross pass from junior Carmen Calpo and fired a shot in from 14 yards out.
Louisville (12-4-3) got the game-winning goal from Craft in the 77th minute when she placed a ball in the left side of the net from six yards out.
"I thought that we played a great game tonight," said head coach Rob Donnenwirth. "The second half play by our team was the best we have played all year. We came out swinging and Louisville capitalized on one counter attack with Jamie's (Craft) goal.
"I am really proud of the character that this team showed coming back this season after a rough start. We will really miss our seniors, who provided great leadership to this team."
The loss snaps the Pirates five-game winning streak, which tied a school record that was set in 1999. It also marks the end of four great collegiate soccer careers for seniors Rachelle Cabeceiras, Krystel Pabey, Megan Schwanke and Sarah Stoltz.
