
Men's and Women's Swimming Split at Duke

DURHAM, N.C. - It all came down to the last two freestyle relays Saturday afternoon as the East Carolina men remained undefeated (5-0), defeating Duke 124-118 while the ECU women lost by one-tenth of a second in the 400 freestyle relay, giving the women their first loss of the season by an narrow margin, 123-120.
"We swam well today, in a very hostile environment," ECU Head Swimming Coach Rick Kobe said. "I am very pleased with our performances today."
On the men's side, one point separated the Blue Devils and Pirates heading into the final event, the 400 freestyle relay, when Josh Curnutte, Greg Neville, Kelly Hendrick, and Gavin Stark captured the win for East Carolina, finishing with a blistering time of 3:08.63. Stark also won the 200 freestyle (1:43.82) and 100 freestyle (46.81). Senior Casey Cronin was victorious in the 200 IM (1:54.44) and 200 breaststroke (2:06.83).
In the diving pool, freshman Ryan Hunt won the one-meter event, scoring 269.55.
On the women's side, the Pirates led 114-112 going into the final event, needing the victory to win the meet. The 400 freestyle relay team of Courtney Felker, Lindsay Holman, Adrienne Williams, and Martha Snead came up short in the final relay losing by only a tenth of a second (3:33.81) giving the Blue Devil women the victory. Senior Diane Parker continued to lead the women, claiming victory in the 200 breaststroke (2:18.84) and 200 IM (2:05.83).
In the diving pool, freshman Christie Icenhower won the one-meter event, scoring 241.95.
East Carolina travels to George Washington on Saturday, November 13 to take on the Colonials at 1 p.m.
