December 17, 2004 | Women's Swimming and Diving
The East Carolina men's team earned a No. 9 standing, just 10.62 points behind top-ranked Eastern Michigan.
Rankings are based on each team's dual meet lineup as submitted by participating teams. The December rankings are the first of three which will be released throughout the season. A winter (January 24) and post-conference (March 1) poll will also be compiled and distributed by CollegeSwimming.com.
The Pirates broke a total of 10 school records during the Nike Cup on Nov. 18-20 at Chapel Hill, N.C.
Freshman Megan Pulaski set a pair of varsity records and three freshman standards in three freestyle events, while senior Diane Parker captured the 100 breastroke competition and established a new ECU record in the 200 breaststroke.
For the men, freshman Josh Barthlow shattered a 10-year-old freshman and varsity record in the 200 backstroke and also set a new school standard in the 100 back to help guide ECU to a sixth-place standing.
The Pirates will return to action Jan. 15, 2005 when they host William & Mary in a dual meet beginning at 1:00 p.m. at the Minges Aquatic Center.
