
Softball Team Wins Two At The Triangle Classic

The game against Virginia was scoreless through five innings, but the Pirates exploded for all six of their runs in the top of the sixth inning. Senior Dany'ele Hill's three-run highlighted the frame as ECU pounded out five hits. Junior college transfer Shirley Burleson opened her career as a Pirate by going 3-for-3 with three doubles.
Virginia scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh to make the final score 6-2. ECU sophomore Brentley Bridgeforth limited Virginia to just four hits to earn the victory.
Against Liberty, East Carolina scored 13 runs on 13 hits and the game was called after five innings due to the 10-run rule. ECU used a pair of big innings to put out the Flames. The Pirates scored six runs in the third and plated another four in the fourth.
Four player recorded multi-hit games led by Mandi Nichols, who went 3-for-4 with three RBIs. Kate Manue and Leigh Savoy each collected two hits and drove in a pair of runs, while Andiey Acosta also registered two hits. Freshman Keli Harrell picked up the victory, striking out three in three innings of work in her first career start.
The Pirates will look to advance in the tournament against the winner of the Elon-Marshall game. The game is scheduled for a 1 p.m. start at the Walnut Creek Softball Complex.
