
ECU Remains Unbeaten At 2004 Hampton Inn/Pirate Classic

The Pirates squeezed out a one-run victory over George Mason scoring the go-ahead run in top of the sixth on consecutive doubles by Kate Manuse and Dany'ele Hill. ECU scored first against George Mason with two runs in the top of the third. Lacassa Hill reached on a fielder's choice and stole second before Christine Sheridan tripled to right field, scoring Hill. After a Leigh Savoy walk, Mandi Nichols singled to right, to plate Sheridan.
George Mason evened the scoring in the bottom of the fourth when Ashleigh McAfee singled to left scoring Kim Braxton and Kathy Hrycyna.
Freshman Keli Harrell recorded her second win of the season, striking out nine Patriot batters in seven innings.
Against Towson, the Pirates scored early with two runs in the first and one in the second. Sheridan led off the game for the Pirates with a home run over the left field fence. Manuse singled home Hill for the second run of the inning. In the second, Shirley Burleson scored on a bases-loaded walk to Kristen Johnson, putting the Pirates up 3-0.
Towson got on the board in the top of the third when Jeanne Bosch singled, scoring Katie Mumbauer. The Pirates added another run in the fifth, putting ECU up 4-1 over the Tigers.
Brentley Bridgeforth recorded the win in five innings of work and Maggie Lingo recorded her first save of the season.
