March 17, 2004 | Softball
In the game one, ECU got on the scoreboard first by plating two runs in the fourth. Sophomore Krista Jessup laced a single into left field to drive home the first run. Jjunior Andiey Acosta then lifted a sacrifice fly to center field to plate the second run of the inning.
The Pirates later tacked on three additional runs in the fifth. With runners at first and second, sophomore Christine Sheridan singled home one run. Senior Dany'ele Hill then doubled to center field to drive home two more runs. ECU collected a total of seven hits as team, including two from Sheridan.
Freshman Kelli Harrell held the Blazers scoreless through 5.2 innings before giving up a two-run home run to Holly Krzan. Harrell earned her seventh win of the season by allowing just three hits through 5.2 innings. Junior Maggie Lingo picked up her fourth save of the season, retiring all four batters she faced in order.
Lingo's late game performance carried over into the day's second game, where she tossed her seventh complete game of the season and earned her ninth victory. The only run she allowed was an unearned run that scored in the fourth to tie the game at 1-1.
The game remained tied until the fifth when Jessup singled to left field to plate the game-winning run. A two-out base on balls issued to junior Kate Manuse started the ECU rally. Hill then singled to right field to move the go-ahead run into scoring position with Jessup set to bat next. Jessup collected three of the Pirates' eight hits, while Hill recorded a pair of singles.
The Pirates return to action this weekend, March 19-21, at the George Mason Patriot Classic in Fairfax, Va. ECU will face George Mason and UMBC on Friday.
