GREENVILLE, N.C. -- The East Carolina women's soccer team shutout instate rival N.C. State 4-0 in spring action Thursday night at SAS Park in Cary, N.C.
The Lady Pirates (1-0) got solid play from junior midfielder Sarah Stoltz, who recorded one goal and a pair of assists on the night. ECU got on the board early when senior Penny Perrott placed a free kick in the back of the net for the first goal of the game.
Stoltz got the second goal for the Lady Pirates off a long throw-in by Krystel Pabey. Pabey placed a perfect throw to the middle for the box, where Perrott took a shot on goal that was blocked by the Wolf Pack's keeper. Stoltz was able to put the deflection off the keeper back into the net.

"I am very happy with the first game of the spring season," said head coach Rob Donnenwirth. "I was really pleased with the fitness level of the team. Sarah Stoltz had a great game for us tonight, and she is now starting to get back to her regular form after the injury from her sophomore year."
The Lady Pirates will be back in action on Sunday, March 7 at Bunting Field, when they take on Elon at 11 am, and then host FC Vision at 2 pm.
