GREENVILLE, N.C. -- East Carolina University's junior Ronnie Pollard (Hendersonville, N.C.) was named Conference USA Athlete of the Week, announced by the league office today. Pollard is the first Pirate track athlete to receive Athlete of the Week honors this season.
Pollard claimed a second-place finish in the 400-meter hurdles at the Carolina May Classic Invitational last weekend. His time of 51.71 qualified him for the NCAA regionals and is the third fastest time in C-USA action this season. Pollard's mark was one-hundredth of a second off his career-best (51.70), which he set earlier this year at the Sea Ray Relays on April 10.
The Pirates will head to Louisville, Ky. on Thursday, May 13 when they compete in the Conference USA Outdoor Championships.
