
Softball Ends Regular Season With Win Over Charlotte

East Carolina (46-22-1, 10-14 C-USA) took the lead early, scoring four runs in the top of the first. Already ahead 2-0, Kristen Johnson sent a two-run home run over the fence in left center to take a 4-0 lead. The Pirates added another run in the second, when Shirley Burleson came home on Kate Manuse's single up the middle. East Carolina added four more in the fifth to provide the final 9-0 margin. Pitcher Brently Bridgeforth allowed one hit and just two base runners in five innings. She is 16-9, this season. Christy Murray took the loss, ending the year 12-14 for Charlotte (23-29, 6-17 C-USA). Becky Matthews had the lone hit for the 49ers, a single to center in the second inning.
ECU will begin play in the Conference USA Tournament in Louisville on Thursday. The sixth-seeded Pirates will face third-seeded USF at approximately 1:30 p.m.
