
ECU Men's 4x400 Relay Qualifies For NCAA Championships

GREENVILLE, N.C. -- The East Carolina men's 4x400 relay team recorded a third place finish at the NCAA East Regional Championships Saturday, May 29th at Percey Beard Track and Field on the campus of University of Florida in Gainesville.
The Pirates, which is ranked 11th in the nation, posted a time of 3:06.70 and qualified for the NCAA Championships which will be held June 9-12 in Austin, Texas. ECU finished three seconds behind national power Florida (3:03.25), while fellow SEC school Georgia claimed second with a time of 3:06.23.
ECU's relay team is made up of seniors Ricky Bell (Havelock, N.C.) and Darrus Cofield (Raleigh, N.C.) along with juniors B.J. Henderson and Thomas Lewis (Fayetteville, N.C.), and return to the NCAA Championships after failing to qualifying in 2003.
In other action Saturday, senior Colleen McGinn (Jacksonville, N.C.) finished ninth in the high jump after recording a jump of 5-08.50. The two-time Conference USA high jump champion tied her personal and school-best record, which she set at the 2002 C-USA Outdoor Championships.
