GREENVILLE, N.C. ? The East Carolina women's soccer team will look to snap its three-game Conference USA loosing streak when they host 2003 C-USA Tournament Champion DePaul Friday afternoon at Bunting Field at 4:30 p.m.
Both teams are coming off a pair of losses last weekend. The Pirates (2-6-1, 0-1-0) dropped its first conference game of the season to in-state rival Charlotte, 2-0. ECU also lost to Western Carolina, 2-0 on Sunday to extend the Pirates winless streak to six games. Junior Meghan McCallion leads the Pirates in scoring with two goals and also has a team-high five points.
DePaul (5-5-0, 1-2-0) comes into Friday's match dropping a pair of C-USA games to Memphis, 2-1, and Saint Louis, 3-0. Junior forward Julianne Sitch, the 2003 C-USA Offensive Player of the Year and the 2004 Preseason Player of the Year, leads the Blue Demons with six goals and 17 points.
The two teams tied in their last outing on Oct. 12, 2003 in Greenville. ECU fell behind early after Sitch received a ball at midfield and broke away for the goal. She placed a shot just over the left shoulder of Pirate goalkeeper Lindsi Troxler at the 20:25 mark, to take a 1-0 lead.
The Pirates would come back with a game-tying goal at the 56-minute mark when Melissa Penney found Penny Perrott in the goal box off a corner kick.
ECU holds a slim margin of victory in the overall series (1-0-2), recording the lone when back in 2001 in Chicago, Ill., when they blanked DePaul, 2-0.
ECU will be back in action Sunday, Oct. 3 when they host Marquette at 1 p.m.
