GREENVILLE, N.C. -- The East Carolina women's soccer team is preparing to take on SMU Wednesday afternoon in the first round of the Conference USA Tournament in Houston, Texas at the Rice Track & Soccer Stadium. Game time is scheduled for 6 p.m. (EST).
The Pirates (8-11-0, 4-5-0) enter the tournament as the No. 7 seed after defeating Marshall last weekend, 1-0, in double-overtime. ECU finished the season with eight points, tied with Houston, but held the tiebreaker after beating the Cougars early in the season, 1-0. It is the fourth time in the Pirates five years in C-USA that ECU has made the tournament.
SMU (14-4-1, 8-1-0) and UCF both secured a share of the 2005 Conference USA regular season women's soccer championship on Sunday by picking up 2-1 victories over Houston and Memphis, respectively. Both squads finished the conference schedule with identical 8-1 records and 16 points. UCF earned the top seed by winning a tie-breaker, while SMU was the No. 2 seed.
