Women's Soccer Earns Team Academic Award

GREENVILLE, N.C. -- The East Carolina women's soccer team was one of 249 NCAA women's soccer programs to be awarded the 2005 College Women's Team Academic Award by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA).
To receive the prestigious Team Academic Award, the program must have posted a team grade point average of 3.0 or higher during the 2004-05 academic year. This is the fifth time in the last eight years that the women's soccer program has received this prestigious award. The Pirates also received the award in 1998, 1999, 2000 and 2004.
"I am proud that our team never loses sight that the education they receive at East Carolina is invaluable," said Head Coach Rob Donnenwirth. "Playing a college sport is very rewarding but also very demanding. It takes a lot of hard work, sacrifice and commitment to be successful in both areas. I thank the NSCAA for recognizing this achievement."
The Pirates, who reached the Conference USA Tournament for the fourth time in five years, finished the season with an 8-12-1 record.
