Softball Wins Two On First Day Of Seahawk Classic

WILMINGTON, N.C. --- East Carolina improved to 14-2 overall this season with a pair of victories at the UNCW Seahawk Classic Friday. ECU defeated Stony Brook, 6-5, and then slugged its way past Coppin State. 13-1.
With the game tied in the seventh, senior Leigh Savoy drove in the game-winning run to lift ECU to victory. Savoy finished the game 3-for-5 with three RBIs, while sophomore Keli Harrell picked up the victory.
In its second game of the day, ECU plated 13 runs in just five innings. Senior Mandi Nichols led the Pirates' offensive output, going 3-for-3 with a home run, three RBIs and four runs scored. Laurel Carlson also went 3-for-3 with a home run, while Kristen Poe went 2-for-3 with an RBI.
ECU continues tournament play on Saturday with games against Fairfield and UMBC.
